Nutra accepts the Pharma trend – An insight
Written by: Ekta K. Kalra
The focus of companies is money-wise or health-wise?
For instance, today the ingredients of milk are nutraceuticals. Nutraceutical should in reality hold not its focus on the isolation of ingredients. Isolation of active components and its marketing was since long the area of practice by allopath. And this isolation can also lead to increased chances of side effects exposure. The companies are competing with the natural products readily available in the market. They are giving a synthetic look to the nature that heals. Except for monetary gain what else can be the reason for this undesirable mode of providing nature help in synthetic form?
In India nutraceuticals were prepared for consumption for ill members of the home in the premises of home itself. India still holds this practice though to a significantly reduced level of performance at the present time. I really do not understand why the nutraceutical companies should sell products like milk ingredients instead of proposing the consumption of milk itself?
So it is clear the health sector whether it is pharma or nutra it holds sooner or later attention to raise for monetary gain. The expectation of meeting health benefits by a more refined fashion of less side effects are actually been declined on the face of companies to rise on monetary terms.
We need to be loyal. If a product is not required in the market, why should it be prepared and proposed for consumption? Why don’t experts mention that you should take ginger or other natural thing instead of stating that you should consume this product from this company? Natural is reasonably good, nature is friendly, nutracetuicals concept is agreeable but the public-fooling steps followed by companies annoy me.
I do not direct this write-up to all the companies in the nutraceutical sector. Yes, I do feel that the companies that are working wise should atleast mention on the label of the nutraceutical being sold by them the statement that, “The consumption of one teaspoon of this milk ingredient is equivalent to the consumption of 50 ml of milk.” Will it not be a good idea to give the consumers an option to consume what and when. The consumer shall then be able to opt for milk as a remedy at the time when he cannot afford the cost of milk ingredient in the form of nutraceuticals. The governing body, the law, the legal authorities must make it mandatory that every nutraceutical being sold in the market has on its label the amount of natural leaf/root/plant/etc which can be consumed to what amount to gain the same health benefit. Let the people decide whether they want to drink milk or opt for milk ingredient. Why should they be directed by scientific force to opt for company made nutraceuticals?
The people need to be educated on the lines of preparation of nutraceuticals within their home premises. The fresh and natural with no preservative can certainly be better in many cases. Why doesn’t law work to educate people on these lines? Why are there no classes for natural remedies that can heal? Experts (Nutracists) should guide people in masses about preparing the nutraceuticals within their home and having the best of the healing plants within the home premises. Why is this practice not gaining that strength that it should actually gain? Investment in educating people can create miracles. This will also direct people to choose that mode of eating habits that is best for their health.
I want to summarize my write up in the following points:
1. The label on nutraceutical products should mention that the consumption of this product is equivalent to what natural thing. Also, the option to consume natural and to what extent should breathe fresh air. However, I understand that this may not be possible for every nutraceticals. But wherever it is possible it should be included by law.
For instance: Take two tablets or drink 250 ml of milk.
2. The law should not allow nutraceuticals to gain a synthetic look. The addition of preservatives, coloring agents and other ingredients in the nutraceuticals should only be allowed in cases where no other option breathes. The preference should be natural-nutraceuticals.
3. The law should work to bring to masses the simple knowledge of preparation of common and important nutraceuticals within the home premises.
Please Note: I wrote a motto for Nutracists: “The beauty of life is to serve heal.” Do you like that?
